The wave

Dylan's Right

Dylan's Right is a reeling right-hand point break off the point in Busung Bay, on Simeulue's sheltered south-west coast. The take-off zone is tight and well defined, then the wave runs 100 metres and more down the reef, switching between hollow sections and long, rippable walls that wrap beautifully as they go. It starts to throw once the forecast shows around three feet and holds swells up to about four metres.

The catch: the swell has to come from the right angle, SSW to SW, so some days it stays small. Pick your sessions and it pays off, with the cleanest wind usually in the morning. Intermediate surfers find endless playful lines here; advanced surfers get the tubes.

You paddle out through a keyhole in the raised reef, and the angle from the beach makes it easy to film your friends from the resort.
