Left-hand wave breaking over the reef at Dylan's Left, Simeulue

Other side of the point

Dylan's Left

The left across the point. Less perfect than the right, but it catches more swell and is the go-to when the right is small or onshore.

The wave

Dylan's Left

Across the point from Dylan's Right, the left breaks over a deeper reef, so it's softer and less mechanical than its neighbour. What it gives up in precision it makes up in consistency: it pulls in more swell, and it gets better as the size rises. It's best on a medium, straight-south swell. Expect a shifty take-off peak, long playful walls and, now and then, a quick cover-up. It's the obvious backup when the wind turns onshore at the right.
